In July 2016, a video of a Pakistani woman going on an abusive rant against the government went viral followed by the huge memes and hashtags like ‘#YehBikGayiHaiGormint’ trending on Twitter and other social networking sites for weeks.
The backdrop of the Video
This video was of a woman from Karachi giving candid correspondence to a local News Channel when she was asked about the Pakistani government and as a reply to the reporter’s question, she stated that "yeh bik gayi hai gormint, saare milke humko pagal bana rahe hai”. The clip of this interview went viral over the internet like a fire in the forest, Memes, and trolls filled the internet in Pakistan and India with the Gormint auntie’s face. This lady is now popularly known as the Gormint aunty on social networking sites.
The coined phrase 'YehBikGayiHaiGormint' at present is all over everything ranging from badges to mobile phone cases to hoodies, sweatshirts, etc. Also, a Rap song titled 'Ye Bik Gayi Hai Gormint Offical FULL RAP│INDIAN DISSTRACK' by a YouTube Channel named 'Bakchod BaBa Ji' was launched on 20th February 2017. Another song, titled 'Ye Bik Gayi Hai Government | Ye Bik Gayi Hai Gormint | Gormint Song | Funny Video Song' by a YouTube Channel named 'Saison' was launched on 24th July 2017. This video became such a sensation that it found a way into comedy group AIB with late actor Irrfan Khan playing her role.
While everyone had a hearty laugh at the aunty’s take on the government or loved wearing a t-shirt with Gormint auntie’s face, it seems that this viral meme is not all hilarious.
Recently, A Trademark Application bearing application number 5058777 in class 43 for the mark “
” had been filed by one Mr. Abhishek Aggarwal.

It was very surprising to see that The Trademark Registry didn’t raise any objection to said mark and the mark was Accepted & Advertised in Trademark Journal vide journal number 2013 dated 16th August 2021.
The coined phrase 'YehBikGayiHaiGormint' or its phonetic variations in any combinations or permutations either individually or in combination with various suffixes and prefixes now belongs to the public domain. The expression 'Public domain' is generally used with reference to the works that belong to everyone and are available for public use. Therefore, the phrase 'YehBikGayiHaiGormint' or its phonetic variations cannot be monopolized or appropriated or attributed to a particular person for any goods or services.
Further, if the said Trademark got Registration, it will result in numerous litigation as the said phrase being available for public use and is commonly used by various mercantile, artists, retail brands for various goods and services.
It seems that the Trademark Registry has gravely erred in issuing the Examination Report conceptually.
